Training in Thailand at Spirit of Siam Gym, Including Gym Tour, Footage and Review
Finding the right place for your period of training in Thailand is a difficult task. Many factors come into play – your budget, goals, opportunities that you are seeking, style of training, area [the list goes on and on].
I believe that the most important factor at play is trust – trust in your tainer, that under difficult times, they have your best interest at heart.
I find myself traveling back to Chiang Mai for the reasons I listed in my last post [Read More About it Here]. Spirit of Siam has been my home whenever traveling to Chiang Mai. Marco, the owner of the gym, is a fighter who has lived amongst the Thais for 9 years now. Much of this time was spent sleeping on a mattress, running with flip flops on, and truly living like a Thai Boxer in the rural area outside of Bangkok.
As the only foreigner in the gym, his level of skill rose quickly and his Thai language has become fluent. However, his philosophy is not what you may think. Marco explained to me his mission; to bring the skill and technique learned in his time within the camp & ring to those who come to train with him, all without the same level of sacrifice that he had to endure. Not having a single soul within the radius of the camp that he can communicate his losses and wins took true mental fortitude.
I first met Marco at Namsaknoi Muay Thai during my time there as a sponsored fighter. We trained beside each other for over a month, Marco bringing a strong mental and physical game to every session; earning my respect, trust, and ultimately helping me to make the decision on which gym to choose when in Chiang Mai.
