How to Uppercut THROUGH the Guard | Boxing, Muay Thai & MMA Tutorial

Uppercut Variation Used Against Fighters with a High & Tight Guard

A variation of the fundamental and traditional uppercut. This variation of the punch works well both offensively and defensively, smoothly rolling into the lead hook.

As a taller fighter that relies on technique rather then raw power and athleticism, I found that throwing the uppercut in this fashion helps to keep my shoulder up to protect my chin, it aids in hiding the punch itself as it has less of a “wind up”, and it is also extremely effective against fighters with a high and tight guard. The tight guard and aggressive style that is often used to get on the inside of a counter fighter’s punching and kicking range.
