How to Perform a Basic Wai Kru Ram Muay
Displayed by Muay Thai Legend Namsaknoi
The Wai Kru is a traditional, pre-fight ritual in Thailand. Artistically passed down from teacher to student, it is the appreciation for the tutelage provided. It is a beautiful display of respect as well as an opportunity for the fighter to relax, center their mind, control their body, and perform what we would consider in the West as an active stretching routine.
In this tutorial, Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn (2x Wai Kru Ram Muay of the Year Recipient) presents us with a basic form of the Wai Kru that you can immediately put to practice. Once you become familiar with the routine and its movements, you may add or subtract elements of the Ram Muay to create your own unique Wai Kru.
