Neck Strengthening – Beginner Exercises
Strength and Conditioning coach Matt Wheeler goes over his three favorite neck strengthening exercises for combat and contact sport athletes – “Yes” “No” and “Ear to Shoulder”.
Strengthening the neck is important in almost all sports to prevent trauma to the brain and even more critical in combat sports to prevent the athlete from getting rocked or knocked out. In Muay Thai it is also used to keep proper posture and efficient control within the clinch:
- Gravity as Resistance for Beginners
- Slow Pace
- Full Range of Motion
- 20-30 Repetitions Per Set (1-2 sets to begin)
- Move into our advanced exercises once 3 sets of 20-30 repetitions are no longer challenging ==> Top Advanced Neck Strengthening Techniques and Exercises
