When Should You Turn Pro? Dark Side of Fighting & More | TMTG #94

“When should I turn pro?”

A question often asked by passionate and hungry amateur fighters. As the skill level elevates and more opportunities begin to come to fruition, Muay Thai is arguably still the most raw combat sport alive at the time that this article & podcast is published.

Its rawness creates a vivid picture of who belongs in the spotlight and who does not. After a handful of impressive professional wins fighters are catapulted up to fight the already established world champions of the sport – which there are plenty of.

There are also plenty of “professional athletes” at the bottom of the pyramid. It is a mix of legitimate contenders, fighters looking for a pay check, and those enjoying the title of being a professional combat sport athlete. The middle of the pyramid is what is currently being renovated, but as we speak there is little opportunity to hang in that middle bracket; the rawness of Muay Thai brings the anytime, any place attitude.

It also is the one combat sport that pays attention to the level of competition and overall resume versus a quick look at the win and loss column. If played right you can become a superstar, if played wrong, you will be stuck in the mix at the bottom of that pyramid.
